MyFSU: Navigating the Digital Hub of Florida State University
The website used by Ferris State University employees and students, MyFSU, will undergo a major redesign in the autumn of 2023 to improve its usability.
Since January, the IT Services Department has been collaborating with software service providers to create a new layout and design that will serve as a hub for staff, students, and teachers.
Access to numerous vital services, including Canvas, Bulldog Connect, housing contracts, class registration, and more, can be found on the popular MyFSU website. Eric Hazen, the director of digital marketing, is among the numerous people who have found it difficult to utilize.
Hazen emphasizes that visitors ought to find it easier to get relevant information on the website, and he believes technology may help tailor content to each individual.
Jordan Wilson, a student, expressed her dissatisfaction with MyFSU, citing in particular the lack of integration between housing and meal plans. She also mentioned having trouble locating details on obtaining a new identification.
Hazen and his group are revamping MyFSU in collaboration with Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer Charlie Weaver to address these challenges. The intention is to develop a new website that does not require human data entry by smoothly integrating content from multiple sources.
They have restricted their selections to two styles after exploring design possibilities with providers that specialize in contemporary web page design. They haven’t revealed the vendor identities, though, in order to protect privacy and refrain from hastily endorsing one business over another until usability testing is finished.
The project combines both internal and external resources. A software service provider will develop the page’s basic appearance; Weaver’s team will take care of the information, colors, security, and other details.

Due to scheduling restrictions, they chose to collaborate with an outside organization. An outside company can finish building the new MyFSU website in roughly 16 weeks while building it internally would take a year.
The project’s final cost has not yet been decided, but such systems typically cost between $15,000 and $150,000. The vendor has not yet been selected. Weaver and Hazen are optimistic that the university will benefit from the new MyFSU website for the ensuing ten years.
The complete execution of these modifications is planned for autumn 2023, just in time for the start of the next school year. Before the formal release, Hazen and Weaver want to get student input through usability testing that they will be conducting in the upcoming months.
